Making a home network something you can actually talk to.

ACT Fibernet serves over 100 million users across India. The app held plans, bills and support, but the thing people actually wanted to know, why is my Wi-Fi slow right now, took a call to support to answer. I worked with ACT's engineering team to find out what the network already knew, and turned it into something the app could say back in plain language.

The problem wasn't information. It was translation.

What I worked on

The network produced plenty of data: bandwidth per device, latency, packet loss, node health. None of it reached the customer in a form they could use. A slow evening looked the same in the app as a fast one.
Conversational AI, the network dashboard, home screen widgets, plan and add-on screens. I sat with ACT's engineering team to understand which signals were actually available, then designed around what could be answered honestly rather than what would look impressive in a demo.

Foundations

ACT's red is loud by design. The work was building a system where it could stay recognisable across a light home screen, a dark AI surface and a festive theme, without any of them looking like a different product.

Jost for headings, Hanken Grotesk for everything you actually read. Icons, illustrations and components were drawn to hold up in light, dark and high-contrast themes.

Conversational AI

Zippy, the conversational layer

"Why is my internet slow?" is the question the whole feature is built around. Zippy answers it in one sentence, shows the evidence underneath, and then offers the next thing you'd reasonably want to ask. Every reply ends with options rather than a blank input, because most people don't know what a router can be asked.

The technical numbers are still there, download, upload, latency, packet loss, but they sit one tap behind the plain answer instead of in front of it.

Devices & usage

The network dashboard

A house, not a list.

Twenty-four connected devices is a spreadsheet if you present it as one. The dashboard maps the home instead, parent router, floor nodes, terrace node, with every device sitting on the node it's actually connected to. Offline devices surface first, because that's the only reason most people open this screen.

Below the map, usage is framed as a story rather than a readout: what improved, by how much, and since when. Speed improved 97% after moving to smart Wi-Fi is a sentence a customer repeats. A bandwidth chart is not.

In motion

Widgets

Two apps, one screen, recognised in a glance.

The widget shows two partner benefits at once, Spotify and Turito, and both had to be recognisable immediately. So each picks up its own brand colour, with a colour swap animation carrying the eye from one to the other.

Plans

Parental controls and network security were sold separately and understood by almost nobody. The redesign shows what's already active, what's still locked, and what the bundle saves, on one screen, with the free-trial cost stated as ₹0 until the trial ends rather than buried in terms.
